Danielle & Amy earn Great Britain selection!

14 May 2014 by Reading Athletic Club

Two of Reading Athletic Clubs talented throwers have both been selected to represent the Great Britian & Northern Ireland Junior team this coming Sunday at the annual Loughborough International competition.

Both have been in terrific form so far this season and both top the UK U20 rankings for their respective events.

For Danielle, this marks her second appearance for Team GB Juniors, having gained her first selection back in 2011 when competing at the European Youth Olympic Festival held in Turkey. Danielle currently tops the UK U20 rankings in the shot putt with a throw of 14.27m which she threw indoors back in January when winning the South of England indoor U20 title. Her best outdoor throw of the season came last Saturday when competing for the club in the UK League where she threw a winning distance of 13.91m, which is also the best outdoor throw in the age group so far this season.

For Amy this represents her first International vest as she will represent Team GB Juniors in the Discus Throw. In the past 12 months Amy has established herself as one of the top Discus throwers in the UK and last season won bronze in the U19 age group at English Schools, however she has continued to progress further this season and she currently tops the Under 20 Women’s UK rankings with a throw of 45.84m which she set back in mid-April when competing at an open meeting in Oxford. Amy is also heading into the Loughborough match in good form having threw just shy of that distance last Saturday, also at the UK Women’s Leaguw fixture at Cardiff, with a winning effort of 45.81m.

Those who know both Danielle and Amy will know they are very grounded athletes who enjoy what they do but also take their athletics very seriously. Both ladies are staunch supporters of the club and they both regularly represent the club in league competitions. They are a credit to the club and we are very proud of both Danielle and Amy for their selection and wish them the very best of luck for this coming Sunday!
